Ambassador Tueller provided a keynote speech at the 2019 Powering Iraq conference in Baghdad. Hosted by the Government of Iraq and the Ministry of Electricity, the conference brought together government, business, and leading industry specialists to discuss key challenges facing the electricity sector and to build relationships to move projects forward.
“Access to electricity that is available 24 hours per day — every day — will power Iraq’s economic diversification and create the conditions for long-term growth and new job creation. This conference is an example of the importance that Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi’s administration is placing on increasing natural gas and electricity production. Not only does it makes sense economically, but it also makes sense from a geo-political perspective. Iraq and its people are blessed with abundant natural resources, if Iraq is fully energy independent, this will strengthen Iraqi sovereignty and make it a stronger and more stable partner in the Middle East region.”
