Farewell Message from U.S. Consul General Matthias Mitman

It was an honor to serve as U.S. Consul General for two years in Basrah. I have deeply appreciated the cooperation and hospitality of the people of southern Iraq, and will leave here with many wonderful memories and friendships. I am also very proud of U.S. diplomatic engagement in southern Iraq over my time here. My team at the U.S. Consulate General in Basrah sponsored a number of initiatives and activities throughout our consular district that reflect the importance the U.S. government places on developing and strengthening our ties in southern Iraq. Thank you to all of our friends and partners.

Though I am departing Basrah, I am pleased to say that I will remain in Iraq for another year and will have the honor to serve as U.S. Consul General in Erbil. I am deeply committed, both professionally and personally, to the success of Iraq.

– Matthias Mitman, U.S. Consul General
