On May 30, U.S. Consul General Matthias Mitman visited Peshmerga soldiers at the Erbil’s Emergency Management Center who were injured in the ongoing conflict with Da’esh in Khazir, Ninewa. This visit took place on Memorial Day, a U.S. holiday that honors those military men and women who have given their lives in defense of their country. The Consul was joined by Brigadier General Hazhar Omer Ismail, Director of Coordination and Relations for the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. Mitman commended the Peshmerga’s courage, and thanked them for their service and sacrifice in the fight against Da’esh, saying they are a credit to their country. Mitman presented commemorative coins to wounded soldiers to show gratitude and to highlight the strong partnership between Iraq and the U.S. in the ongoing war against Da’esh.
