Readout of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s Meeting with the PM of Iraq, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani of Iraq today in Davos, Switzerland. They discussed a range of issues, including Iran’s reckless ballistic missile attacks against Erbil, Iraq the day prior and the importance of sustaining a strong bilateral partnership as outlined in the Strategic Framework Agreement. Sullivan and Sudani discussed the importance of stopping attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria and committed to enhancing security cooperation as part of a long-term, sustainable defense partnership. Sullivan reaffirmed U.S. support for Iraqi sovereignty and commitment to working towards greater stability and prosperity, including through continued cooperation on economic, commercial, and energy matters. Finally, Sullivan reaffirmed President Biden’s invitation for Prime Minister Sudani to visit the White House soon.
