We receive many inquiries from individuals seeking protection and wishing to be resettled in the United States. Iraqi citizens living in Iraq who have worked directly, or in association with, the United States government may be eligible for resettlement to the United States through a Direct Access, Priority 2 program. Additionally, citizens of other countries living in Iraq who have a credible fear of persecution in their home countries and may be eligible for refugee or asylum status in Iraq can also be considered for resettlement to the United States.

For asylum seekers:
- For non-Iraqi citizens who have a credible fear of persecution contact the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR for information on how to apply for asylum and assistance. You can also find out more about the United States Refugee Assistance Program (USRAP) here.
- For Iraqis living outside of Iraq who have a credible fear of persecution in their home country, please read about the United States Refugee Assistance Program (USRAP) here or contact the Resettlement Support Center for the Middle East and North Africa (RSC MENA), operated by IOM: IC@IOM.int, to find out about how to register with the nearest United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office for protection and assistance.
For those who have already applied:
- All inquiries regarding the status of a case that was referred to the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) must be addressed to the Resettlement Support Center (RSC) that is assisting with your case. Arabic language speakers are available to answer questions.
- If your case is being processed in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, please contact the Resettlement Support Center for the Middle East and North Africa (RSC MENA) operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at IC@IOM.int or by calling the number +962 (6) 520 6130.
