U.S. Embassy Baghdad warns U.S. citizens in Iraq of the possibility of crowds and possible road closures throughout the country during the Ashura holiday, especially in and around neighborhoods and cities hosting Shia shrines.
As a reminder, U.S. citizens should maintain a heightened sense of security awareness and take appropriate measures to enhance their personal security at all times when living and working in Iraq.
Please review the “Iraq Travel Warning” posted on the U.S. State Department’s website, and remember that U.S. citizens remain at high risk for kidnapping and terrorist violence in Iraq.
