U.S. Ambassador Jones Travels to Erbil for Meetings with Kurdistan Regional Government Leaders

On June 11, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Stuart Jones traveled to Erbil for meetings with top political leaders, including IKR President Masoud Barzani, KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, and PUK Politburo member Barham Salih. Ambassador Jones discussed the political situation, economic reform plans, and the $480 million in ongoing U.S. humanitarian and military assistance, including more than $65 million in food, fuel, ammunition and medical supplies provided to the Peshmerga in the last month. Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve Commander Lt. General Sean MacFarland, Office of Security Cooperation – Iraq Chief Brigadier General Scott McKean, and Acting Consul General Roy Perrin also participated in the meetings.
