U.S. Ambassador Stuart E. Jones Travels to Erbil for Meetings with Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani and Ninewa Governor Nawfal Agoob

On January 24, 2016, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Stuart E. Jones traveled to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region for meetings in Erbil with Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani, KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and other senior KRG officials.  The Ambassador also had separate meetings with Ninewa Governor Nawfal Agoob and former KRG Prime Minister Barham Salih. The Ambassador was joined by U.S. Consul General for Erbil Matthias Mitman.

In his meetings with President Barzani and other senior government officials, Ambassador Jones reiterated strong U.S. support for Peshmerga forces in the fight against Da’esh, the importance of improving KRG relations with Baghdad, and the need to implement political and economic reforms.
