U.S. Ambassador Visits Iraqi Kurdistan Region

From August 4-6, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Stuart Jones visited the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR), where he met with IKR President Massoud Barzani, and other senior Kurdistan government and security officials. In his meeting with President Barzani, Ambassador Jones praised the IKR for its important role in fighting Da’esh, as well as the tremendous support that Iraqi Kurds have provided internally displaced persons currently in the IKR. During his visit, the Ambassador, along with Erbil Consul General Ken Gross, also traveled to Sulaimaniyah for meetings with top political leaders, including PUK Politburo member Hero Ibrahim Ahmed, Chief of the Zanyari Agency Lahur Talabani, General Coordinator of the Gorran Movement Nawshirwan Mustafa, and PUK Secretary General First Deputy Kosrat Rasul. The Ambassador discussed political reconciliation and the ongoing fight against Da’esh and thanked all for their friendship and support during his time in Iraq.
