On March 12, U.S. Consul General Steve Walker visited the Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital in Basrah to pay his respects to southern Iraqis wounded in the fight against Da’esh. He thanked them for their service and sacrifice on behalf of their country

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the thousands of Iraqis who have joined their countrymen in the fight against Da’esh. It is an honor to meet some of the young men who bravely fought and sacrificed so much on behalf of their country. Southern Iraqis know all too well the evils of Da’esh, and I extend heartfelt condolences to those who have lost brothers, husbands, sons, family members, or friends in the fight. Their sacrifices have indeed paid off. Da’esh is losing, thanks to the courage and tenacity of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) – including the Popular Mobilization Forces – which has liberated approximately 40% of Iraqi territory once controlled by Da’esh. The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with its Iraqi partners in the fight against Da’esh. I am humbled to have this opportunity to express my thanks and admiration to these brave men for their service to their country,” CG Walker said.
