On July 22, Mr. Steve Walker assumed responsibilities as U.S. Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Basrah. Mr. Walker is a career diplomat with over two decades of service to the U.S. Department of State, with numerous assignments in the region including U.S. Embassy Baghdad.
“I’m honored to take up the position of Consul General in Basrah. I look forward engaging with the people of southern Iraq and continuing the work of strengthening cooperation, economic ties, and people-to-people connections between the people of the United States and southern Iraq,” Walker said.
A native of the U.S. state of Hawaii, he holds advanced degrees in international relations and national security strategy, and speaks Arabic and French.
