On December 31, the U.S. Consul General in Erbil, Matthias Mitman, joined with UNICEF and local NGOs in Erbil to distribute almost 2,500 sets of children’s clothing and blankets at Baharka Camp, where thousands of families have fled to escape Da’esh. The distribution is part of larger U.S. efforts to provide winter relief supplies to internally displaced people and refugees in need of assistance throughout Iraq.
The United States is providing clothing, coats and other critically needed items for more than 500,000 Iraqi children. The United States is also distributing blankets, hygiene kits, water storage containers, kerosene heaters, and solar lights to help internally displaced people and refugees cope with the cold weather, particularly in northern in Iraq.
The United States has provided more than $603 million in life-saving assistance for the Iraqi people since the start of the crisis.
