The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is pleased to announce the opening of the application period for the 2016 Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP). The deadline to apply is December 1, 2015. IYLEP is the U.S. Government’s premier exchange program for Iraqi youth. Through a month-long leadership, community service, and cultural program in the United States, IYLEP forges bonds of understanding and friendship between American and Iraqi youth in support of the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement.
IYLEP 2016 has two units. The high school program provides 140 Iraqi high school students aged 15-17 with a four-week leadership program with Iraqi peers from around the country as well as American teenagers of the same age. Iraqi adult mentors accompany the high school group. Information on the high school and adult mentor programs, including how to apply, can be found at: http://iylep.tumblr.com.
The undergraduate program is a four-week leadership exchange for 100 university students in their first, second, or third year of study and programming focuses on five thematic topics. Information on the undergraduate program, including how to apply, can be found at: https://fs3.formsite.com/Meridian1630/IYLEP2016/form_login.html.
Both IYLEP programs are fully funded by the U.S. Department of State. Candidate selection is based on merit and conducted through an open and rigorous review process. There are no costs to apply to the program, attend a U.S.-sponsored information session, or to participate in the program if selected.
