U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry Visits Baghdad

John Kirby, Assistant Secretary and Department Spokesperson, Bureau of Public Affairs, announced that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is visiting Baghdad, Iraq, on April 8 to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, and Council of Representatives Speaker Saleem al-Jabouri.

The Secretary will underscore our strong support for the Iraqi government as it addresses significant security, economic, and political challenges.

He also will discuss the Coalition’s continued support for Iraqi-led efforts against Da’esh and emphasize that we will continue to support the Iraqi people as they work towards a unified, free, democratic, and prosperous future.

In addition, the Secretary is meeting with Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechrivan Barzani, to express U.S. appreciation for the critical role that the Kurdistan Regional Government has played in the Coalition’s efforts to defeat Da’esh.
