Visa Services at the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil
he Consular Section at the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil only provides nonimmigrant visa services to those seeking to enter the United States for a temporary period. We do not process official government visas or immigrant visas, including fiancé visas in Erbil.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply for a nonimmigrant visa , please follow the steps below.
- Fill out the DS-160 for each applicant (including children).
- Obtain a visa appointment
- For non-emergency appointments, please schedule through our online appointment.
- If your situation qualifies for an expedited appointment, please see the instructions below.
*Please note that due to a significant backlog, there may not be appointment slots available when you first try. New appointment slots are opened throughout the week and you should check back in order to obtain an appointment.
3. Please bring the following to your visa interview:
-
- a MRV fee (visa fee) receipt from the Bank of Baghdad for each applicant
- one 5cm-by-5cm photo for each applicant
- one pre-paid DHL air waybill for your group
EXPEDITED VISA APPOINTMENTS
If your purpose of travel is one of the following categories, you may qualify for an expedited visa appointment.
1. Emergency Travel for Medical Treatment or Death of a Family Member
2. Urgent Travel for Citizens and Residents of Iraq
3. Student (F) and Exchange Visitor (M/J) visas for Citizens and Residents of Iraq
4. ESTA Denials
5. Services on behalf of USCIS
6. Travel for Non-Citizens and Non-Residents of Iraq
1. Emergency Travel for Medical Treatment or Death of a Family Member
If you have emergency travel based on medical treatment or illness or death in the family, please send an email to ErbilNIV@state.gov with the subject ‘Emergency Travel.’ In the email, you must include the following:
– A letter from the hospital or doctor in the United States explaining the situation and why the trip to the United States is necessary. If treatment in the U.S. is necessary, the letter should include the date and duration of treatment as well as the estimated cost.
– In the case of treatment in the United States, the applicant’s local doctor should submit a letter with the applicant’s diagnosis and an explanation why treatment cannot be performed in Iraq.
– If your immediate family member in the United States is ill or has passed away, please send information about the situation from the doctor in the United States.
– A copy of each applicant’s DS-160 Confirmation page (CEAC)
– A copy of your passport data page. The passport must have at least six months of validity remaining after your planned date of entry.
2. Urgent Travel for Citizens and Residents of Iraq
If you have urgent travel, please send an email to ErbilNIV@state.gov with the subject ‘Urgent Travel’. In the email, you must include the following:
– Evidence that your travel is necessary by a specific date (for example: an invitation to a graduation, your registration for a business conference, the confirmation dates of a cruise you are taking, etc.)
– A copy of each applicant’s DS-160 Confirmation page (CEAC)
– Proof that you have Iraqi citizenship or residency in Iraq.
– A copy of your passport data page. The passport must have at least six months of validity remaining after your planned date of entry.
3. Student (F) and Exchange Visitor (M/J) visas for Citizens and Residents of Iraq
If you have urgent travel, please send an email to ErbilNIV@state.gov with the subject ‘Urgent Travel’. In the email, you must include the following:
– Evidence that your travel is necessary by a specific date (for example: an invitation to a graduation, your registration for a business conference, the confirmation dates of a cruise you are taking, etc.)
– A copy of each applicant’s DS-160 Confirmation page (CEAC)
– Proof that you have Iraqi citizenship or residency in Iraq.
– A copy of your passport data page. The passport must have at least six months of validity remaining after your planned date of entry.
4. ESTA Denials
If hold the passport of a country in the Visa Waiver Program and you have been recently denied ESTA authorization, you are not eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program.
Email erbilniv@state.gov to request an appointment for a B1/B2 (business and tourism) visa with the subject “ESTA denial” and include the following attachments:
-A copy of your ESTA denial
-DS-160 Confirmation page (CEAC)
-Passport with more than six months of validity after your planned entry to the United States.
5. Services on behalf of USCIS
The U.S. Consulate General Erbil now accepts the following services on behalf of USCIS:

6. Travel for Non-Citizens and Non-Residents of Iraq
If you are a non-citizen or non-resident of Iraq and wish to schedule a non immigrant visa appointment, please send an email to ErbilNIV@state.gov with the subject ‘Non-citizen/Non-Resident Travel’. In the email, you must include the following:
– An explanation of your purpose of travel to the United States
– A copy of each applicant’s DS-160 Confirmation page (CEAC)
– A copy of your passport data page. The passport must have at least six months of validity remaining after your planned date of entry.
Consular services will consider your request on a space-available-basis. Please note that if you are a non-citizen/non-resident of Iraq, and you schedule an appointment using our online scheduling program, your appointment will be cancelled, and you will be notified via email.
Visa applicants can also apply at any consulate or embassy which is accepting appointments. There is no requirement to apply in Erbil. Please see https://travel.state.gov to find information on scheduling appointments in other locations
